2007 Has Been
Double-Oh Stellar in Sports World
By BUCKY FOX

The 007 calendar
is zipping by like a James Bond stunt.
Who starred brightest these 12 months? Count 'em:
JANUARY: Chris Leak. For springing a big one, namely a 41-14 palindrome,
on Ohio State and making sure Florida reigned over college football--making
for one fun Gator alumni party at a Southern California Hooters
of which I happened to partake.
FEBRUARY: Peyton Manning. For gunning the Colts past Chicago in the Super Bowl
29-17--enough of a spread to let me collect 20 bucks in Vegas.
MARCH: Joakim Noah. For marching his Gators through the madness on the
way to a second straight NCAA title and a Florida grip on basketball-football
championships in the same school year--despite pronouncing his
first name with a hick J instead of the proper Y.
APRIL: LeBron James. For slamming past Gilbert "Jammed" Arenas
in the playoffs' first round while carrying the Cleveland Cavaliers
toward the NBA Finals - and muscling above Kobe Bryant as the
king of basketball.
MAY: Apolo Ohno. For teaming with Julianne Hough and gliding to the
"Dancing With the Stars" trophy the way he skated to
Olympic gold.
JUNE: Aubrey Huff. For giving Oriole fans a rare cycle--single, double,
triple, homer in the same game--and saying, "As a 235-pound
fat guy, you get a triple out of the way, that's something,"
just in time to include in my O's book coming out next spring.
JULY: Rafael Nadal. For pushing Roger Federer to a five-set classic at
Wimbledon before bowing to Basel's best--and a month after slicing
up the Swiss in the French Open final.
AUGUST: Jarrod Saltalamacchia. For signing his name right his whole life and catching
on with his new team, the Texas Rangers, by driving in seven
runs during a 30-3 baseball bash in Baltimore--the most runs
since 1897, or 110 years ago.
SEPTEMBER: Roger Federer. For closing the competition at the U.S. Open and
putting his Swiss stamp on three-fourths of the year's tennis
majors.
OCTOBER: Helio Castroneves. For leaping out of his pacesetting Indy 500 car onto
the dance floor, where he steered hot Hough toward the "Dancing
With the Stars" checkered flag--which I correctly predicted
for the second straight season.
NOVEMBER: Chase Daniel. For making sure Mizzou passed Kansas on the way to
No. 1, a ranking we Tiger fans won't see again until man lands
on Neptune.
DECEMBER: Andy Roddick. For leading the United States atop tennis' Davis
Cup--an event maybe five Americans know about--by routing the
Russians.
