Fetch the bouncing launch to speed us
Toward the mystic houseboat/palace
Moored beyond the seals---
You see it, past the wispy gossamer of fog?---
With growing palm trees,
Just as though on land,
And boasting onboard lighthouse too,
All undulating in the swells,
Enough that any coconut-bent monkey high up
In the fronds might turn a little queasy.Go below, amidst the port-holes and stained glass
You dine beneath the ocean
Where inquisitive sea lions swim, peer in,
And exit when no diner passes steaming calamari.
Cormorants land here upon the deck,
And ruling gulls stand proud as masters
Preening on the lighthouse peak.
Heres a flagship like no other in your dreams.Recruit the Maitre-d
To don a captains cap!
Then, setting course, put out to sea,
Sending foggy crewmen off
To shinny up the tallest palm and serve as lookout
Over endless swatches of the deep deep briny blue!
---On San Francisco Bay, where coconuts and monkeys may yet grow on moored trees
