 A WEASEL YOU CAN LOVE

By PAUL HERTELENDY
of the Columnists.com

Equipped with fur of rusty brown
A beauty of a long-tailed mountain weasel
Bounds about the forest,
Leaping ballet-like in arches like an ocean swell,
With trailing tail to replicate the undulations.
Cavorting in the woods
The gleeful cutup serves as entertainer
for all comers,
Gaining admiration for this frisky dancing spirit
All too often deprecated as a pest.
He’s worth your uphill climb to watch,
Your every uphill huff and puff and wheezle.

My kingdom for a camera or easel
Catching all the essence of that
Artful, extroverted, wild and woolly weasel!
