PAUL HERTELENDY
STREAMLINES SUBLIME
The chilly night encroaches, soft deploying dark-veil layers overhead.
The woods along the shore are mute until a flock of six or seven
Geese arrive from Canada, flying low above us,
Silhouetted,
Almost grazing maple treetops,
Sounding out a honk or two, pianissimo,
To summon colleagues and to find a roosting spot as refuge overnight. The silent wings swing wide
And flap quite slowly,
Even glide,
As if afraid to launch a turbulence of dissonance to undermine
The pregnant stillness of the dusk divine.
Too soon theyre gone,
Leaving only tracks and echoes in the evening sky disconsolate.
