PAUL HERTELENDY
A SOLID CONSTITUTION
Thomas Jefferson stands tall
And looks the White House office-holder
In the eye, a mile away,
Recalling and admonishing
That massive building stones
On which he built America
Might never be removed
Or left neglected to erode away.
----On visiting the monumental statue in the Jefferson Memorial, Washington, DCThe Jefferson statue in the memorial, some 15 feet high, looks directly toward the White House south portico with fixed gaze, via an unobstructed pathway in which all the trees were cleared out long ago. The left hand clutches a rolled-up document, which may or may not be the Bill of Rights, for which Jefferson was largely responsible.
