Europe’s Search for the Most Beautiful Behind

Who said globalization is making all countries too much alike? Not true.
The Italians pinch butts, the French waggle them and the Germans grow them big. Now a contest unimaginable in the United States has been launched by a German underwear manufacturer to find the finest derrières, male and female, throughout Europe, country by country.
Photo cabins have been set up in shops
in several major cities inviting all comers who believe their
behind is a work of art to drop their pants or raise their skirts
and hold still for a few seconds.
The competition has been organized by Sloggi, a Munich-based
company that sells its wares worldwide and claims to have produced
enough elastic bands to wrap around the earth 750 times. More
than a billion sets of Sloggi things have been sold.
The French campaign has just hit Bordeaux where the rather conservative (by French standards) Galeries Lafayette is sponsor. Customers are invited to enter the specially automated booth, the Sloggimatron, to have their behinds photographed.
Aspirants can also submit photos by email, and the public can vote on their favorites by logging on to http://smys2.sloggi.com/?action=index
The Bordeaux Sloggi representative, Olivia, suggests aspirants wear a string, a thong or something called a tanga. That counts me out. Give me Y-fronts any time.
The local newspaper Sud-Ouest quotes Olivia at Galeries Lafayette as saying one well-formed young man promised to return in the afternoon--he wasn’t wearing anything under his jeans. “We get this a lot,” she said. “Men often wear nothing under their trousers.” It must be a French thing, although I have heard stories about going commando.
When all votes have been recorded Europe-wide, a jury will be convened at the Crazy Horse Saloon in Paris to make the final selection. The prize will be a modeling contract with Sloggi. It’s not Hollywood but I suppose it’s better than working.
