ABC comes up with another new comedy

ABC has had a run of good luck this season with its “comedy Wednesday”
slate of “The Middle,” “Modern Family” and “Cougar Town.”

Now that the 2009-2010 season is winding down, ABC and the other networks are rolling out some potential candidates for their fall schedules. One of these shows is “Romantically Challenged,” a half-hour comedy about four friends who are trying, as ABC’s press release puts it, “to find love and happiness while navigating their way through today’s tricky world of dating.”

The focus of the show is on series star Alyssa Milano (”Who’s The Boss,” “Charmed” and guest stints on numerous other series), who plays Rebecca, a recent divorcee with a teenage son. Since she has been out of the dating game for 15 years, she looks to her
kindergarten-teacher sister Lisa (Kelly Stables) for dating advice.

Rounding out the cast are Perry (Kyle Bornheimer) a successful financial planner and his best friend and roommate Perry (Josh Lawson), a would-be novelist.

It’s rather difficult for me to imagine that these attractive, smart people are “romantically challenged,” but the agonizingly long premiere episode proves they are.
When one of the three “best” things I can say about the show is that when you start looking forward to the commercial breaks you know the show is in trouble; the second “best” thing is the laugh track -- whatever those folks on the laugh track were watching must have been pretty funny to crack them up so much and so loudly because it sure could not have been “Romantically Challenged.”

And the third “best” thing I can say about the show: just skip it.
