New Fox serial thriller
gets special launch pad

Fox kicks off its new TV season tonight (Monday, Aug. 21) with the debut of its one-hour serial drama “Vanished,” a show it's pairing with the season premiere of its returning hit “Prison Break.”
With "Prison Break" rolling out from 8-9, Fox assumes the millions of fans waiting for the payoff to last season's "Prison Break" cliffhanger will stick around to sample the start-up of the new serial drama at 9.
(The Fox season is beginning earlier than the other networks because it will take a break in October for Major League Baseball, as it does every year.)
Here's a capsule review of "Vanished":
Sarah Collins (Joanne Kelly), the wife of U.S. Senator Jeffrey
Collins (John Allen Nelson) turns up missing and FBI agents,
as well as an ambitious TV reporter, are hot on her trail in
this serialized thriller with a similar pace and mood as Fox's
hit serial "24." Is her disappearance a straightforward
missing persons case or is it part of a larger, more sinister
conspiracy?
Among the key cast members are Rebecca Gayheart as reporter Judy
Nash, Ming-Na as Agent Lin Mei and Gale Harold as Agent Graham
Kelton.
Outlook: It’s summer and it’s hot...and if you are
tired of reruns or cable offerings, you might want to give this
one a watch. The plot involves a lot of twists and turns, so
pay close attention.
I liked parts of “Vanished,” so this is a “maybe” and an alternative to what the other networks will be offering. But we’ll get a good read on the prospects for the show once CBS’ “Two and a Half Men” and “The New Adventures of Old Christine” have their season premieres next month. They're likely to be the two toughest opponents for “Vanished" this season.
